Reducing the Costs of Ceramic Orthopaedic Implants

Ceramic heads and cup liners for orthopaedic hip implants have become a product of choice among a large number of orthopaedic surgeons in South Africa and internationally.

The imported cost of these orthopaedic surgical components has become prohibitively expensive.

The reasons being that this is firstly a closely protected market by International Manufacturers and secondly that current unfavourable foreign exchange rates make importation costs an ever increasing factor.

Ortho Sol Development (Pty) Ltd has therefore during the past 8 months invested in setting up a Ceramic Orthopaedics Division using the very latest technology and our own innovative processes.

The new ceramic products will be in production in-house by December 2015.

The local production of these components is going to be extremely beneficial to both orthopaedic patients undergoing hip replacement and medical aids alike as a major cost saving.

We estimate a 35/40% reduction on current costs and up to 50/60% when international orthopaedic equipment manufacturers 2016 price increases come into play.
